Dressing Your Reborn Baby: My Favourite Places to Shop
One of the most enjoyable parts of owning a reborn is choosing their outfits.
Whether you're dressing a tiny newborn, a chunky six-month-old, or something in between, finding clothes is all part of the fun. I often get asked where I buy outfits for my babies, and the truth is they come from all sorts of places!
For everyday essentials, supermarkets and high street stores can be brilliant. I've found some lovely baby clothes in Tesco, Asda, and Matalan over the years. They're affordable, easy to find, and often have some really sweet designs that look lovely on reborns.
If you're looking for something a little more special, I also love brands such as Mamas & Papas, Jamie Kay, and Newbie. Their clothing often has beautiful colours, lovely fabrics, and timeless styles that photograph beautifully and suit reborns perfectly.
One thing I always recommend is dressing your reborn just as you would a real baby.
A vest underneath an outfit not only looks more realistic but can also help protect your reborn's cloth body. Adding a nappy underneath clothing helps create a natural shape and completes the overall look. It's a small detail, but it can make a surprising difference.
Layering is also a great way to add realism. A vest, sleepsuit, cardigan, socks, and hat can transform a simple outfit into something that looks much more lifelike and cosy.
Of course, every collector has their own style. Some love traditional baby clothes, others prefer modern outfits, and some enjoy changing their baby's wardrobe with the seasons. That's one of the wonderful things about the reborn hobby—there's no right or wrong way to enjoy it.
My only real warning is that darker fabrics can sometimes transfer dye onto vinyl, particularly if they're brand new. I always recommend washing darker outfits before dressing your reborn and checking them regularly if they're being worn for long periods.
At the end of the day, dressing your reborn should be fun. Whether you're shopping in Tesco during the weekly food shop or treating your baby to something special from Jamie Kay, it's all part of bringing their little personality to life.
